I’m Rick Pruss — a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, truss designer, bartender, and data-driven problem solver. After years of leadership in both military and civilian roles, I’m now channeling my curiosity and analytical mindset into data science and technology. Born and raised in Florida, I now call Wyoming home.
From Then to Now
🇺🇸 Marine Corps (2004–2009)
I joined the United States Marine Corps in 2004 and served two deployments to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. As a Non-Commissioned Officer, I led teams in IT operations, logistics, and supply chain systems, overseeing millions in military assets and supporting mission-critical operations in high-pressure environments.
🌴 Florida Life + Education (2009–2018)
After active duty, I returned to Florida and took a hands-on approach to life—bartending, guiding jet-ski tours, and embracing island living in Key West while working toward my associate’s degree. I later transferred to the University of Miami, graduating in 2017 with a double major in International Studies and Political Science, and a minor in Arabic Studies.
🏗️ Design & Operations Career (2018–2023)
In 2018, I moved to Wyoming to lead design and operations for engineered roof and floor trusses. I worked at Teton Truss and later at Diamond Truss, managing multimillion-dollar projects, sales, procurement, and team leadership—all while applying system thinking and continuous improvement across every part of the business.
💻 Data, Tech & What’s Next (2023–Present)
Now I’m pursuing a new chapter—focusing on data science, analytics, and building software systems that solve real-world problems. I’m learning Python, SQL, and modern data tools, working through certifications, and developing projects that bring clarity, structure, and insight to messy problems.
A Little More About Me
- Fitness, CrossFit, and long trail hikes keep me sharp.
- I’m a die-hard Miami sports fan (🙌🐬🐆🔥🐟) with a soft spot for underdogs.
- I thrive in structure but crave creative challenges—whether it’s designing a new system or building something from scratch.
- I believe in solo travel, strong coffee, and interesting conversation.
Looking Forward
Every chapter in my life has taught me something different—and now I’m bringing it all together. This site is where I share the projects, lessons, and stories that are shaping what comes next.
